Love I believe, is the one thing that keeps people going. It can be indirect or direct to your life. People have love for family, friends, career, or anything else really; love is the driving force that motivates people, and gives them a sense of purpose here on Earth. Love is the most powerful emotion any being can posses. It exposes all virtues in people when they are able to freely love. The main message in the Bible is to love unconditionally. The main story in the Christian faith is about God loving his creation so much (humanity) he sent his only Son, pure and holy, to die a innocent death in a world filled with sin for others. Love must be the most powerful gift ever given. Love travels faster than anything, even light. It falls into the realm of science that is abstract and hard to test, or prove. It is such a powerful emotion, I care less about proving it’s existence and more about capturing its nature. According to the bible, the definition of love is
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13, 4-8
Now, there are many definition of love but this happens to be my favorite because it is so pure. It is not the worldly definition of love, which often times promotes selfishness, jealousy, or pride, but rather illuminates ultimate humility. This love does not boast and is not proud. One of the most truthful parts of this definition is “it keeps no record of wrong”. This is at its most powerful and truest form when thinking of the relationship between a mother and her child. In the 1950s psychologist Erich Fromm wrote “Mother’s love is unconditional, it is all-protective, all enveloping; because it is unconditional it can not be controlled or acquired”. The same way a mother does not keep tabs on her child’s wrongs, nor does God. He has unconditional love and is always ready for his people. We see throughout history, some of the greatest figures, choose love above all else. No matter the circumstance, that is the one thing that gets them through. The beautiful things about love is no one can rob us of it and it does not discriminate. You can choose to love whatever, whoever, and however. It is so powerful and has the ability to shape the world around us. In a MindBodyGreen article, Daniel Dowling said “Faith is the muscle that enables us to break impossible barriers in order to express and receive love”. So remember, we all need something greater then ourselves to believe in, so whenever possible choose love.
